District 5 runs from Aspen to the border of New Mexico, encompassing the entire San Luis Valley. The district totals eleven counties, with the largest county by population being Delta County. Delta County has the most Republican voters, with nearly 50% of registered voters identifying themselves as Republican. The rest of the district, however, has more Democratic and independent voters than on average, which produces even district in terms of the registration. The San Luis Valley is largely agricultural, with tourism to the Sand Dunes National Park, the newest park in the system. It is also one of the coolest ones I've personally seen. Pitkin County is separate from Delta County and the San Luis Valley, and has a major population center in Aspen. Aspen and Snowmass are a world class ski resort, becoming a tourism draw and second home for celebrities.
